Player Profile

In the family backyard of Dalzell, South Carolina, a father who played college basketball and was a high school teammate of Ray Allen methodically shaped his son's talent. Tee Morant sculpted Ja's explosiveness and signature moves, passing down an athletic legacy in which his mother Jamie also excelled as a high school point guard before shining in college softball.

The rise of Temetrius Jamel Morant defied all expectations. A late physical developer who couldn't dunk until his senior year of high school, he still accumulated 1,679 points at Crestwood High School and earned three regional MVP titles. Despite these performances, recruiting services completely overlooked him. His fate turned through a chance discovery: a Murray State assistant coach spotted him by accident at a summer camp.

At Murray State, Morant surpassed all expectations and etched his name in NCAA history. As an outstanding sophomore, he became the first player ever to average more than 20 points and 10 assists per game, topping the national assists leaderboard. His two college seasons (2017–2019) revealed an electrifying point guard capable of spectacular dunks and natural leadership.

A former AAU teammate of Zion Williamson on the South Carolina Hornets, Morant turned his overlooked status into a launchpad to the top. His journey perfectly illustrates how perseverance and hard work can transform an unrecognized talent into a basketball phenomenon, as he continues to redefine the entire team culture in Memphis.
