Growing up in the streets of Montreal North, Luguentz Dort first put on goalkeeper gloves before discovering his true calling on the basketball court. Born to Haitian immigrant parents from Saint-Marc, this son of a taxi driver and a textile worker found in basketball much more than a sport: an escape from the temptations of street life.

Influenced by his brothers, he gave up soccer at age 12 to dedicate himself to basketball. By 15, he had incorporated weight training into his routine, building the power forward physique that would become his defensive trademark. His academic journey took him from École Secondaire Mont-Royal to prestigious American institutions, where he established himself as a five-star prospect and MVP of national showcases.

After a standout season at Arizona State, crowned with the titles of Pac-12 Freshman of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, Dort made his way into the professional ranks through the back door. Going undrafted in 2019, he signed as a free agent with the Oklahoma City Thunder in July before making his NBA debut in December.

Multilingual in Haitian Creole, French, and English, a Marvel movie fan, and a FC Barcelona supporter, Dort has turned his defensive style into a signature brand. Having become the longest-tenured player on the Thunder roster, he also contributed to Canada's historic feat at the 2023 FIBA World Cup, winning the country's first-ever medal in the competition.
