Nicknamed "Time Lord" by Boston fans for his few memorable late arrivals, Robert Williams III turned what could have been a flaw into an endearing trademark. This athletic center from Shreveport, Louisiana, saw his stock drop to the 27th pick in the 2018 NBA Draft due to questions about his work ethic, but the Celtics bet on his exceptional potential.
Developed at North Caddo High School where he already dominated Louisiana courts, Williams chose to stay an extra season at Texas A&M despite first-round projections after his freshman year. That decision already hinted at his growing maturity and desire to improve before making the leap.
In Boston, the young center quickly silenced doubts with his remarkable athletic abilities, shot-blocking skills, and rebounding presence. His defensive impact and infectious energy helped propel the Celtics to the 2022 NBA Finals, where he established himself as an undisputed starter.
