Both of his parents, Sherry and Paul Sr., had played Division I basketball at Middle Tennessee State, naturally passing that passion on to him. Moving between Saint Louis, Chicago, and Texas, the repeated relocations built his adaptability — a quality that would prove crucial throughout his professional career.

A five-star recruit in high school, Washington shone in the most prestigious national competitions, including the McDonald's All-American Game and the Jordan Brand Classic. At Kentucky, he established himself as a leader during the NCAA Tournament despite injuries, showing remarkable maturity on the college court.

Selected 12th overall by Charlotte in 2019, the power forward quickly found his footing in the NBA.
