Player Profile

When Desmond Bane scored 62 points in a high school game at Seton Catholic, few could have imagined that this shooting guard, raised by his great-grandparents, would become one of the most feared three-point shooters in the NBA. Yet the journey of this Richmond, Indiana native perfectly illustrates how determination can turn obstacles into springboards.

Abandoned by his parents at the age of two, Bane grew up in an unconventional but loving family environment. That stability allowed him to flourish on the court, where he set a school record with 1,991 career points, surpassing local legend Woody Austin. Despite these exceptional performances, college recruiters remained skeptical: he received only one Division I offer, and it came late in his senior year of high school.

At Texas Christian University, Bane channeled that lack of recognition into motivation. In his very first season, he led the Horned Frogs to an NIT title, quickly establishing himself as a natural leader. Four years later, he became the first TCU player selected in the first round of the NBA Draft since 1995, chosen 30th by Boston before being immediately traded to Memphis.

As a Grizzlies guard/wing, he confirmed his potential by setting several franchise records and becoming a key contributor to the team's playoff success. His legendary work ethic and long-range accuracy quickly made him an indispensable player. Now with Orlando since June 2025, Bane is beginning a new chapter, determined to prove that his best basketball is still ahead of him.
