Player Profile

Who could have predicted that a teenager who quit basketball out of boredom would become one of the most versatile centers of his generation? Jock Landale's story perfectly illustrates how a late growth spurt at Geelong Grammar School can transform a career.

After rediscovering his passion for the game, the Australian headed to Saint Mary's College in California on a sports scholarship. There, he built his reputation as a modern center, capable of dominating in the paint while also making his mark from three-point range and as a playmaker. His performances allowed him to set several school records.

Going undrafted in the 2018 NBA Draft, Landale refused to give up and embarked on a basketball journey that took him from Partizan Belgrade to Žalgiris Kaunas, with a stop at Melbourne United, whom he led to a championship title. This international experience shaped his character and refined his game, ultimately opening the doors of the NBA with San Antonio, Phoenix, Houston, and now Memphis.

Wearing the Boomers jersey, he contributed to the Australian national team's historic achievement by winning the Olympic bronze medal at Tokyo 2020. His commitment extends beyond the court: during a EuroLeague game, he pledged to donate $100 for every three-pointer and dunk he made to support victims of the Australian wildfires.

Now established in the NBA, Landale embodies the resilience of a player who managed to turn a chaotic start into an international success story, proving that the winding roads sometimes lead to the most remarkable destinations.
