The 2024-25 season will go down in history: at just 21 years old, the Australian became the youngest player in league history to reach 200 steals in a single season, finishing as the NBA leader in that category.
Son of Ricky Daniels, a two-time MVP of the South East Australian Basketball League, Dyson grew up in a family where basketball ran through their veins. After excelling in two sports — representing Victoria in both basketball and Australian rules football at national championships — he made the decisive choice to focus solely on basketball. His journey took him from the Bendigo Braves to the NBA Global Academy, then to the G League Ignite, where his well-rounded stats (12 points, 7.1 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 2 steals) impressed scouts.
Selected 8th in the 2022 Draft by New Orleans, Daniels truly found his footing after his trade to the Atlanta Hawks in July 2024. It was there that his defensive talent burst into the spotlight, culminating in the 2025 Most Improved Player award — a first for an Australian player. On the international stage, he made an impression at just 17 years old by scoring 23 points with six steals against New Zealand.
