Player Profile

Few wings can boast of having conquered three different levels of college basketball before landing an NBA contract worth nearly $8 million. Jaylen Wells is part of that rare elite.

It all started at Folsom High School, where this Sacramento native put up incredible numbers with a 26.3-point average in his senior year, earning him the Player of the Year award from The Sacramento Bee. But it was at Sonoma State University that Wells truly forged his identity as a basketball player. Playing for the Seawolves, he dominated the California Collegiate Athletic Association with 22.4 points and 8.7 rebounds per game in his sophomore season, earning conference Player of the Year honors and an All-American selection in Division II.

His transfer to Washington State marked another crucial step. Starting at power forward, Wells quickly adapted to the Cougars' higher level of play, averaging 12.6 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. This versatility between the guard and forward positions caught the attention of NBA scouts.

The Memphis Grizzlies bet on his potential by selecting him 39th overall in the 2024 draft. Wells delivered right from the start of his professional career, scoring 16 points in his first start. Unfortunately, a right wrist fracture in April 2025 prematurely cut short his promising rookie season.

With three guaranteed years remaining on his contract, Wells has the time needed to refine his game and establish himself as a lasting part of the Grizzlies' rotation.
