Franz Wagner: stats, last game & news

When Franz Wagner stepped onto NBA courts at just 20 years old, few could have imagined he was already carrying the weight of German basketball history on his shoulders. Standing 6'10", capable of playing anywhere from point guard to power forward, he embodies a rare versatility that has fascinated observers since his early days at Alba Berlin.

At 16, Wagner became the youngest player ever to wear an Alba jersey in the Bundesliga, a feat that already hinted at his exceptional potential. Despite a wrist injury that prevented him from participating in the prestigious Basketball Without Borders Europe event, the young Berliner refused to be discouraged. His resilience was further proven at the University of Michigan, where he literally grew two inches, transforming both his frame and his NBA prospects.

Selected 8th overall by Orlando in 2021, Wagner was reunited with his brother Moritz on the Magic, forming a historic sibling duo in the NBA. But it was under the German national team jersey that Franz truly revealed his full dimension. After helping Germany claim bronze at EuroBasket 2022, he led the country to its first-ever FIBA World Championship title in 2023, a resounding achievement that marked the dawn of a new era for German basketball.

With the Magic, Wagner has established himself as a defensive cornerstone thanks to his remarkable basketball IQ and court vision. His ability to impact both ends of the floor, combined with his positional versatility, makes him a central piece of Orlando's long-term vision. At 22, this world champion continues to write his own legend, carrying the hopes of a franchise on the rise and a basketball nation in full renaissance.
