Player Profile
When Dillon Brooks scored 39 points against Team USA in the 2023 FIBA World Cup bronze medal game, he simply confirmed what observers already knew: this player backs down from no one. That historic performance, which earned Canada its first World Championship medal since 1986, perfectly captures the essence of the man who has embraced the nickname "Villain Brooks".
Raised in Mississauga by his mother Anita Diane Brooks, the Canadian forward built his character long before setting foot on the courts of Father Henry Carr Catholic Secondary School and then Findlay Prep. It was at the University of Oregon that he truly blossomed, becoming over three seasons one of the cornerstones of a team that claimed the Pac-12 Conference regular season title.
His aggressive style of play and relentless defense quickly made waves, as did his unapologetic trash talk on the court. Selected 45th overall in the 2017 NBA Draft by Houston before being immediately traded to Memphis, Brooks turned what could have been seen as a slight into extra motivation.
With the Grizzlies, he established himself as an essential piece of the puzzle, bringing that defensive intensity and warrior mentality that define great teams. His journey then took him to Houston and then Phoenix, where he continues to embody that philosophy of constant competition.
With a World Championship bronze medal to his name and a "villain" reputation he cultivates with relish, Dillon Brooks has proven that boldness and determination can transform a role player into a major force on the international stage.
