Player Profile

When Osasere Benjamin "Oso" Ighodaro stepped onto the court at Footprint Center for his NBA debut on October 24, 2024, few could have imagined the winding journey that had led him to the Phoenix Suns. This Mesa, Arizona native of Nigerian descent built his reputation on a simple philosophy: team first.

At Desert Vista High School in his hometown of Chandler, the big man already stood out for his versatility, averaging 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks per game as a junior. Rated a four-star recruit, he attracted interest from Stanford, Texas, and Vanderbilt, but it was Marquette that won him over. A choice that already revealed his character: Ighodaro prioritized the environment where he could best thrive.

College life greeted him with a tough initiation, however. An early injury could have shattered the young man's ambitions, but Oso turned that setback into a driving force. He came back more determined than ever, quickly becoming a cornerstone of the Golden Eagles. On the court, his unselfish play was a revelation. Off it, his academic strengths and natural leadership showed through a telling gesture: he devoted time to tutoring his teammates.

Selected 40th overall in the 2024 NBA Draft by Portland before being traded to Phoenix, Ighodaro quickly discovered the demands of the highest level. A brief stint with the Valley Suns in the G League allowed him to record a double-double, confirming his potential. At 22, the big man of Nigerian heritage embodies a new generation of players who understand that individual talent means nothing without collective intelligence.
