Player Profile

When you grow up across four countries and speak just as many languages, basketball becomes a universal language. Sandro Mamukelashvili embodies this cosmopolitan reality — he left Tbilisi for New York, then Italy at age 14, before joining the prestigious Montverde Academy in the United States.

Sport runs in his blood: his grandmother played for the Soviet national women's team, and Zaza Pachulia, a Georgian NBA legend, became his mentor. In Biella, the power forward honed his game in Italian youth programs, developing the versatility that defines him today.

At Montverde, he played alongside RJ Barrett, a future NBA talent, but it was at Seton Hall University that Mamukelashvili revealed his true competitive nature. A serious wrist injury could have shattered his ambitions, but he turned that ordeal into a driving force. His growth peaked during his final college season: 1,000 career points and a legendary 32-point game against St. John's that perfectly captures his determination.

Selected 54th overall by Indiana in 2021, his rights were immediately traded to Milwaukee. Since then, the Georgian big man has played for the Bucks, the San Antonio Spurs, and most recently the Toronto Raptors. His unconventional journey, shaped by four different basketball cultures, makes him a one-of-a-kind player in the NBA landscape.

With a brother who teaches English in New Jersey and a recognized pianist aunt, Sandro Mamukelashvili draws on a rich family heritage to write his own score on North American hardwood.
