The Toronto Raptors delivered a statement performance on Sunday, dismantling the Dallas Mavericks 122-92 behind RJ Barrett’s explosive season-high 31 points. The victory marked Toronto’s first win in five home games and snapped a four-game losing streak against Dallas.
Barrett’s stellar night was highlighted by a significant career milestone, as the 25-year-old became the eighth Canadian player to reach 8,000 career points. He joins an exclusive group that includes active players Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Dillon Brooks, plus former two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash. Remarkably, Barrett is the youngest player to achieve this milestone among Canadian NBA players.
Balanced Attack Powers Toronto
Scottie Barnes contributed 17 points to complement Barrett’s scoring outburst, while Jakob Poeltl recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Sandro Mamukelashvili added 13 points off the bench as Toronto showcased impressive depth throughout the contest.
The Raptors dominated the pace of play, converting 20 Dallas turnovers into 27 points and holding a commanding 21-4 advantage in fast-break points. Dallas didn’t manage to score on the fast break until the fourth quarter, illustrating their struggles to generate easy scoring opportunities.
Mavericks’ Struggles Continue
Despite Daniel Gafford‘s perfect shooting performance—going 10 for 10 from the field and making his only free-throw attempt for a season-high 21 points and 11 rebounds—the Mavericks couldn’t find their rhythm. Cooper Flagg contributed 17 points, eight rebounds, and six assists in his third game back from an eight-game absence due to a sprained left foot, though he shot 7 for 17 from the field.
The No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NBA draft earned his first career technical foul with 9:28 remaining in the fourth quarter after arguing a non-call on his drive to the basket. Brandon Williams added 16 points for Dallas, but it wasn’t nearly enough to prevent their seventh consecutive loss.
The defeat extended Dallas’s road woes, dropping their away record to 7-24 this season. The Mavericks have now lost 17 of their last 19 games, highlighting their ongoing struggles. Neither team shot effectively from beyond the arc, with Toronto connecting on 10 of 36 3-point attempts while Dallas managed just 5 of 30 from distance.
The Mavericks will look to bounce back when they visit Atlanta on Tuesday, while the Raptors travel to Houston the same night.
