Player Profile

At twelve years old, Devin Booker was already going one-on-one against Danilo Gallinari during trips with his father Melvin, a former professional player. These international adventures built far more than a love of basketball: they shaped one of the hottest scoring hands in modern NBA history.

The son of Melvin Booker and Veronica Gutiérrez, of Mexican descent, the young guard grew up mainly with his mother before joining his father at Moss Point High School in Mississippi. Under his father's guidance, he established himself as one of the most promising prospects in the region. His brief stint at the University of Kentucky earned him the SEC Sixth Man of the Year award — enough to convince the Suns to select him 13th overall in the 2015 NBA Draft.

Arriving in the NBA at just 18 years old, Booker quickly turned Phoenix into his personal playground. His scoring ability and exceptional basketball IQ allowed him to climb the ranks and become the franchise's all-time leading scorer. His performances earned him a spot on the US national team, with whom he won Olympic gold in Tokyo in 2021 and again in Paris in 2024.

Off the court, Booker draws motivation from his relationship with his younger sister Mya, who has 22q11.2 deletion syndrome. His involvement with the Special Olympics reflects a leadership that goes well beyond sports. At 28, the Suns guard continues to write his story, driven by the same determination that fueled him against Gallinari in his youth.
