Player Profile

When Josh Okogie arrived at Georgia Tech in 2016, no ESPN recruiter had ranked him among the prospects to watch. Yet this Nigerian shooting guard, who had come to the United States at the age of three, would quickly turn that indifference into respect.

Born in Lagos on September 1, 1998, and raised in Snellville, Georgia, Okogie grew up as the fourth of five children in a family that valued education as much as sports. At Shiloh High School and later at Georgia Tech, where he studied business administration, he built his reputation on something that never lies: defensive intensity.

His meteoric rise culminated in 2018 when the Minnesota Timberwolves selected him 20th overall in the NBA Draft after just two college seasons. Over four years in Minnesota, Okogie established himself as a formidable defensive specialist, delivering spectacular blocks that electrified the crowd. His explosive athleticism and ability to harass the opposing team's top scorers quickly made him a valuable rotation player.

In 2022, he joined the Phoenix Suns before being traded to the Charlotte Hornets in January 2025, continuing an NBA career that speaks to his perseverance. At the same time, Okogie has honored his roots by representing Nigeria, notably at the 2019 FIBA World Cup and the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

From a high schooler ignored by recruiters to an established NBA player and seasoned international, Josh Okogie embodies success through hard work. At 26, this defensive guard continues to write a story that proves raw talent, combined with an impeccable work ethic, can take you very far.
