The Minnesota Timberwolves cruised past the Atlanta Hawks 138–116 on Monday night, but the blowout took a back seat to an early–fourth quarter altercation involving Naz Reid and Mouhamed Gueye. The confrontation escalated quickly, and both players were ejected.

The flashpoint came with Minnesota firmly in control. Mouhamed Gueye appeared to trip Reid, who popped up immediately and confronted him. What followed was a brief but chaotic scrum, with players, coaches and security rushing in to separate the two. Jock Landale was knocked to the floor in the aftermath and suffered scratches to his neck, but was able to remain in the game.

Anthony Edwards leads Timberwolves offensive charge

Despite this incident, the Timberwolves delivered an impressive collective performance. Anthony Edwards led the attack with 30 points, including 21 scored in the first half alone. Seven Minnesota players reached double figures, illustrating the depth of the roster.

Julius Randle recorded a triple-double with 18 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists, while Ayo Dosunmu shined off the bench with 21 points in just his second game in his new colors after arriving from Chicago.

The turning point of the game came between the end of the first quarter and midway through the second, with a 40-18 run that gave the Timberwolves a lead of up to 27 points. At halftime, Minnesota already led 81-56 thanks to remarkable ball movement.

This victory comes at the right time for the Timberwolves, who were coming off a difficult stretch with three losses in four games, notably against the Pelicans and the Clippers. The Hawks, without Jalen Johnson, Dyson Daniels and newcomer Jonathan Kuminga, could only count on CJ McCollum’s 38 points to limit the damage.

Reid left the game with 7 points and 6 rebounds, while Gueye had 10 points and 7 rebounds off the bench before their joint ejection for double technical fouls.
