The Phoenix Suns started their five-game homestand with a loss to the Miami Heat, falling 111-102 at the Mortgage Matchup Center. This second consecutive defeat was marked by significant absences and glaring offensive struggles.
The most striking element of this game was the Suns’ inefficiency from long range. Phoenix converted only 7 of 35 three-point attempts, a dismal 20% shooting percentage. This performance contrasts sharply with the team’s usual standards, as they ranked 12th in the NBA with 36.5% three-point shooting before this game.
Grayson Allen, despite his 18 total points, particularly struggled with only 1 make on 11 three-point attempts. Royce O’Neale had an even more difficult evening, missing all 7 of his long-range attempts to score just 8 points. This collective shooting woes weighed heavily on the outcome, with Phoenix trailing by as many as 18 points in the second half.
On the Heat side, Bam Adebayo was decisive with 22 points, leading the Heat (25-22) to this victory that allows them to win the season series against the Suns. Jaime Jaquez Jr. was valuable with 20 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists off the bench, while Norman Powell posted a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Dillon Brooks was the Suns’ leading scorer with 26 points, but it wasn’t enough to compensate for the absences of Devin Booker (right ankle sprain) and Jalen Green (hamstring injury). Phoenix (27-19) also suffered from their inability to force turnovers, recovering only 12 balls for 15 points, well below their usual averages.
The Suns will continue their homestand on January 27 against the Brooklyn Nets, hoping to regain their offensive efficiency and key players to restart their momentum.
