Nicknamed "the next KD" on high school mixtapes, Kevon Looney took a very different path from Kevin Durant's to leave his mark on basketball history. This Milwaukee native, mentored by his father Doug, a former college player, possessed a rare versatility that allowed him to play both point guard and center at Alexander Hamilton High School.

A five-star prospect and McDonald's All-American, Looney nearly recorded a quadruple-double in his final high school season, leading his team to a conference title. After a standout year at UCLA where he led all national freshmen in double-doubles, he made the leap to the NBA in 2015, selected 30th overall by the Golden State Warriors.

His early years were marked by adversity: hip surgeries and various injuries could have derailed his budding career. But Looney, a Lakers and Kobe Bryant fan in his youth, drew on that resilient mindset to reinvent himself. Transformed into an undersized center, he gradually became an essential cog in the Warriors machine, bringing consistency and determination in crucial moments.

Three NBA championship rings (2017, 2018, 2022) later, the player whose jersey was retired by his former high school in 2018 has proven that greatness is not always measured in spectacular statistics.
