When Simone Fontecchio hits the game-winning shot against the Golden State Warriors with a spectacular dunk, it is the expression of an entire athletic lineage. The Italian forward, born into a family where athletic excellence is passed down through generations, carries the legacy of a father who was a professional hurdler and a grandfather who played basketball.
At just 17 years old, the Pescara native took a decisive step by signing his first professional contract with Virtus Bologna while still a minor. This early maturity was no coincidence: shaped by European youth tournaments and the prestigious 2011 Jordan Brand Classic, Fontecchio had already won the Italian U17 and U19 championships before even joining the senior team.
His European career is that of a player in constant pursuit of new challenges. From Olimpia Milano to Baskonia, with stops at Cremona, Reggio Emilia, and Alba Berlin where he claimed a German national title, the forward honed his versatility and long-range shooting.
