The Oklahoma City Thunder have officially punched their ticket to the postseason. With a hard-fought 113-108 victory over the Orlando Magic, OKC became the first NBA team to clinch a playoff spot this season while extending their impressive winning streak to nine games.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was absolutely unstoppable, pouring in 40 points to lead the Thunder’s charge. The All-Star guard took over in the crucial fourth quarter with clutch shot-making, including a step-back 3-pointer in winning time that helped seal the victory for Oklahoma City.
Thunder’s balanced attack overwhelms Magic
Beyond Gilgeous-Alexander’s explosive scoring night, the Thunder received solid contributions across the roster. Chet Holmgren delivered a strong double-double performance with 20 points and 12 rebounds, while Ajay Mitchell chipped in 16 points and 3 assists to provide valuable support.
The game remained competitive throughout, with Orlando keeping pace despite missing several key players due to injuries. The Magic entered the contest with momentum from a seven-game winning streak, but couldn’t match Oklahoma City’s firepower when it mattered most.
Oklahoma City’s dominance was particularly evident in the third quarter, where they ended the frame on a commanding 17-5 run to build crucial separation. The Thunder outscored Orlando 85-79 through three quarters before closing out the victory in the final period.
Playoff-bound Thunder continue championship pursuit
With this victory, the Thunder improved to an impressive 54-15 record, cementing their position as one of the elite teams in the Western Conference. The playoff clinching represents a significant milestone for a young Oklahoma City squad that has exceeded expectations throughout the season.
The Magic, despite the loss, remain in solid playoff position at 38-29, though their seven-game winning streak came to an end. Orlando was without several rotation players due to injuries, including Franz Wagner, Jonathan Isaac, and Anthony Black.
Oklahoma City’s nine-game winning streak has been fueled by exceptional play from Gilgeous-Alexander and the continued development of their young core. As the first team to officially secure a playoff berth, the Thunder have established themselves as legitimate championship contenders heading into the postseason.
