When Moritz Wagner decided to create his own highlight reel to attract the attention of American recruiters, few could have imagined that this 6'11" center from Berlin would go on to become a World Champion with Germany. That direct approach, which led him to coach John Beilein at Michigan, perfectly captures the charismatic and determined personality of the player known as "Moe".
Developed at Alba Berlin, where he won the German U19 title in 2013-14, Wagner quickly climbed the ranks of European basketball. His time in the Bundesliga and EuroLeague with Alba Berlin's first team gave him invaluable experience before his move to the United States. His three seasons with the Michigan Wolverines (2015-2018) revealed an unconventional center capable of stretching the floor with his long-range shooting and technical versatility.
Selected 25th overall in the 2018 NBA Draft by the Lakers, Wagner proved he could meet the demands of the highest level. His basketball IQ and adaptability took him from the Lakers to the Wizards, and then to the Orlando Magic, where he now plays alongside his younger brother Franz.
