Player Profile
When Talen Horton-Tucker steps onto the court at the United Center with the Bulls, it's a childhood dream coming true before the eyes of an entire neighborhood. A native of Uptown, Chicago, this young shooting guard/small forward grew up dreaming of wearing his hometown team's colors, a goal he finally achieved in 2024.
His basketball journey began at St. Matthias elementary school, where his exceptional performances earned him the rare honor of having his number 5 jersey retired. At Simeon Career Academy, a legendary institution in Chicago basketball, Horton-Tucker confirmed his potential by leading his team to three consecutive city championship titles, following in the footsteps of the great stars who came out of that school.
After a promising season at Iowa State University, where he averaged 11.8 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game, the Chicago native made the leap to the NBA. His baptism by fire proved memorable during the 2020 Orlando Bubble, where his valuable minutes contributed to the Lakers' championship run, making him one of the youngest champions in league history.
His versatility between the shooting guard and small forward positions, combined with his ability to pick off passes, makes him a particularly valued player among coaches. Now back in his hometown with the Bulls, Horton-Tucker perfectly embodies this generation of players raised on the streets of Chicago who return to enrich local basketball with their NBA experience.
