Evan Fournier produced a masterclass performance on Tuesday night, exploding for a career-high 36 points to power Olympiacos past Fenerbahce BEKO 104-87 in their postponed EuroLeague encounter. The French guard’s exceptional display helped the Greek side maintain their grip on second place in the standings with a 21-11 record, trailing only Fenerbahce (22-9).

The victory showcased Fournier at his absolute best, just days after making headlines for an altercation with a supporter that resulted in his ejection over the weekend. This time, the veteran guard channeled his intensity in the right direction, torching the Turkish powerhouse with his most complete EuroLeague performance to date.

A balanced offensive attack despite key absences

Fournier wasn’t alone in his scoring exploits, as Sasha Vezenkov contributed 24 points for the winning side. Fenerbahce fought valiantly despite their depleted roster, with Talen Horton-Tucker leading their charge with 30 points, though his efforts ultimately proved insufficient.

The game featured unusual circumstances, with several players from both teams ineligible to participate. Monte Morris, Corey Joseph, and Tyrique Jones from Olympiacos, along with Chris Silva and Nando De Colo from Fenerbahce, couldn’t play after signing with their respective teams following the initial postponement. Fenerbahce’s injury woes further complicated matters, missing Nicolo Melli, Devon Hall, and Mikael Jantunen.

Despite the absences, the contest remained competitive through three quarters. Olympiacos held a narrow 48-46 halftime advantage before extending their lead to 10 points (65-55) midway through the third period. They entered the final quarter with a seven-point cushion (74-67), but Fenerbahce refused to fold, cutting the deficit to just three points (78-75) with eight minutes remaining.

That’s when Fournier took complete control, scoring 10 consecutive points to push Olympiacos‘ lead to 11 (88-77). The Greek side never looked back, eventually building their advantage to 17 points (98-81) as they cruised to victory. The performance perfectly encapsulates Fournier’s volatile yet brilliant nature, following his recent declaration of love for Olympiacos fans and his hope to finish his career with the Piraeus club.
