Player Profile
Vincent Poirier is a French center. An amateur soccer player in his youth, he switched to basketball at age 17 in 2010 due to his large build. During his beginnings at Bussy Basket Club, his physical and athletic profile quickly caught the attention of Paris-Levallois where he underwent accelerated development (becoming the top rebounder in the Espoirs championship in 2013-2014).
After starting his professional career there, he was loaned to Hyères-Toulon in Pro B for the 2014-2015 season before returning to PL. The appointment of Frédéric Fauthoux in December 2015 allowed him to break out. The frontcourt pair he formed with Louis Labeyrie led the Hauts-de-Seine club (where he grew up) to play a leading role during the 2016-2017 season.
Building on his success in France, Vincent Poirier signed with Baskonia where he established himself as EuroLeague's best rebounder. This earned him a spot on the 2018-2019 All-EuroLeague Second Team and a contract in the NBA. However, he saw limited playing time with both the Celtics and Sixers, which led to his return to Europe ahead of the Tokyo Olympics.
Signed by Real Madrid, he became Eddy Tavares' luxury backup at the center position. There, he accumulated success and titles for three years before moving on to sign with Anadolu Efes Istanbul.
Meanwhile, he has built an impressive international career with the French national team. He won the bronze medal at the 2019 World Cup before claiming silver at both the 2021 Tokyo Olympics and EuroBasket 2022.
