Player Profile
Rayan Rupert is a strong defender, able to play positions 2 and 3 after even playing point guard at the France National Training Center.
Son of the late Thierry Rupert, and younger brother of Iliana Rupert, Rayan Rupert was trained in his home region of Sarthe, at Coulaines and then at SCM Le Mans, after a first season with Elan Chalon in 2008-2009. He then joined the France National Training Center where he completed his full program. Turning professional in 2022, this shooting guard with a 7'2" wingspan started his professional career in the NBL, the Australian-New Zealand league, to benefit from the Next Star program. After reaching the playoffs finals with the New Zealand Breakers, he was drafted 43rd overall by Portland in 2023. After securing a guaranteed contract, he gradually earned his spot in the Trail Blazers' rotation during his rookie season, with his first start coming on Saturday March 23 against Denver.
In parallel with his club career, Rayan Rupert couldn't showcase himself with the French youth national teams before the 2021 U18 EuroChallengers due to COVID-19. In 2022, he finished in a disappointing fifth place at the U18 EuroBasket.
