The son of Jeff Sheppard, a hero of the 1998 NCAA championship with the Wildcats, and Stacey Reed, a former college star who scored over 1,400 points in her career, the young guard grew up in an environment where excellence was not an option but a given.
From his very first days at North Laurel High School, Sheppard made it clear he was more than just his parents' son. A starter from his first year, he dominated the Kentucky state championship in scoring, ultimately finishing his high school career with 3,727 points, over 1,200 assists, and 1,000 rebounds. This remarkable versatility even earned him the MVP award at the Junior International Championship in Italy, an accomplishment that often goes unnoticed but speaks volumes about his potential.
At the University of Kentucky, Reed chose to wear his father's number 15, fully embracing the weight of that legacy. His playing style, fundamentally sound and intelligent, quickly made an impression. Recognized for his versatility and exceptional defensive skills, particularly his numerous steals, he convinced the Houston Rockets to select him with the 3rd overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.
After a brief stint with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in the G League, Sheppard seized his opportunity in the NBA. His personal record of 25 points as a starter in March 2025 reflects steady improvement and an early maturity that bodes well for a promising future in the league.
