Kevin Durant once again demonstrated his class by scoring 26 points in the Houston Rockets’ victory over the LA Clippers (102-95). The veteran forward was perfectly supported by Alperen Sengun, who scored 22 points, in a prestigious success for the Texas franchise.

A controlled fourth quarter by Houston

The Houston Rockets took control of the game from the start of the final quarter. With a six-point lead at the beginning of the period, Houston immediately drove the nail in by scoring the first seven points to extend their advantage to 85-72 with 10 and a half minutes remaining on the clock.

The key moment of the game came when Durant intercepted a ball from Brook Lopez, allowing Reed Sheppard to convert an off-balance 3-pointer to make the score 92-77. This symbolic action definitively broke the Clippers’ hopes, forcing coach Tyronn Lue to bring in his substitutes as the gap reached 15 points.

Leonard powerless against the Rockets’ defense

Kawhi Leonard led the Los Angeles Clippers with 24 points—a solid night, though a step down from the 41 he dropped in the previous meeting. Much of the gap came down to Houston’s perimeter defense, which held Los Angeles to just 8-of-30 from three, a sharp contrast to the 20 triples the Clippers buried in their 128–108 win back in December.

For the Houston Rockets, Jabari Smith Jr. posted a 13-point, 11-rebound double-double, while Amen Thompson scored 16 in his return after missing the win over Oklahoma City due to illness. Bennedict Mathurin, newly acquired from Indiana, logged his first minutes in a Rockets uniform and finished with nine points and seven rebounds in 26 minutes.

The two teams will meet again Wednesday night in Houston for their final game before the All-Star Game break, offering the Rockets the opportunity to confirm this excellent collective performance.
