Player Profile
Jaylen Hoard, born March 30, 1999, in Le Havre (Seine-Maritime), is a French basketball player playing as power forward.
Jaylen has been immersed in basketball since childhood. His father, Antwon Hoard, played for Murray State University Racers before spending most of his professional career in France, playing for various clubs at different levels. His mother, Katia Foucade, is a former French international player who won silver at the 1993 European Championship. His younger sister Anaïa Hoard played for the French U16 national team. His godfather is James Wade, a WNBA coach and husband of Edwige Lawson-Wade.
A nomadic youth shaped by basketball
As a child, Jaylen frequently moved following his father's club changes. This nomadic lifestyle exposed him early to professional sports but took its toll on his body. During his U15 years, he missed two full seasons due to growth-related injuries.
In 2014-2015, when his parents settled in Carnon in Hérault, he finally regained his full physical capabilities. He resumed playing at Castelnau-le-Lez Basket near Montpellier. His performances caught the attention of Pôle France, which he joined the following year.
A meteoric rise
In 2015, Jaylen joined INSEP and played with the Federal Basketball Training Center (CFBB) in Nationale 1. In April of the same year, he was invited to the Jordan Brand Classic International, where he shined with 16 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 steals, sharing MVP honors with Njegos Sikiras. After a promising season in NM1 (8.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.1 steals), he decided to move to the United States.
He continued his journey at Wesleyan Christian Academy in High Point, North Carolina, before joining Wake Forest University, where he played for the Demon Deacons in the ACC conference.
In 2019, after one NCAA season, he entered the NBA Draft but went undrafted. However, he signed a two-way contract with the Portland Trail Blazers, also playing in the G-League with the Texas Legends. He made his NBA debut on November 11, 2019, against the Hawks.
Between 2020 and 2022, he alternated between G-League (Oklahoma City Blue) and short contracts with the Thunder. On April 3, 2022, he had a standout performance with 24 points and 21 rebounds against Portland.
Return to Europe, success with Maccabi
In 2022, Jaylen returned to Europe and signed with Hapoel Tel-Aviv. After two successful seasons, he signed with Maccabi Tel-Aviv in June 2024, where he truly excelled in EuroLeague (14.7 points, 5 rebounds, 1.3 steals in 30 minutes). In June 2024, he extended his contract with the Israeli club until 2028.
French National Team
Jaylen Hoard has represented France since U16 level, notably scoring 41 points against South Korea at the 2016 U17 World Cup. After missing the U18 tournament in 2017, he had to wait until 2024 to join the senior national team during a EuroBasket 2025 qualifying window. While he participated in the 2024 Olympics preparation, he did not make the final Olympic roster.
