Player Profile

When Terrence Shannon Jr. graduated from high school, not a single Division I university offered him a basketball scholarship. Today, he plays in the NBA after shattering the University of Illinois single-season scoring record with 736 points.

The son of Terrence Shannon Sr., who played professionally overseas for two decades, the young Chicago forward had to carve his own path to the top. A versatile athlete at Lincoln Park High School where he excelled in both basketball and football, he joined the prestigious IMG Academy to focus entirely on basketball. That decision paid off: from a prospect overlooked by recruiters, he became a highly sought-after four-star recruit.

His three seasons at Texas Tech allowed him to build a solid reputation before his decisive transfer to Illinois. There, Shannon Jr. flourished, becoming an indispensable star in the Big Ten. His performances earned him two First Team All-Big Ten selections, an AP All-American nomination, and the Big Ten Tournament Most Outstanding Player award.

His college journey was not without turbulence, as two suspensions drew significant media attention. But Shannon Jr. bounced back each time, showing a resilience reminiscent of his role models Russell Westbrook and Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Selected 27th overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2024 NBA Draft, the forward now begins his professional career with the ambition to prove that the greatest journeys sometimes start from the most difficult beginnings.
