Minnesota Desperately Seeking a Point Guard

Two weeks before the NBA trade deadline, league executives continue to evaluate potential partnerships across conferences. According to Brett Siegel, NBA journalist for ClutchPoints, the Minnesota Timberwolves and Orlando Magic have emerged as possible trade partners as both franchises assess their roster needs before February 5th.

Minnesota Desperately Seeking a Point Guard

Siegel reported Thursday that Minnesota should be looking for backcourt help. « Everyone in the NBA knows that the Minnesota Timberwolves want to add a point guard, and they are strongly expected to make a move for a guard before February 5th, » Siegel wrote. « Who that will be depends on the market, as Rob Dillingham and Mike Conley are their only real trade assets at this point. »

Several guards have been linked to Minnesota in recent discussions, including Chicago Bulls players Coby White, Ayo Dosunmu and Tre Jones, as well as Malik Monk from the Sacramento Kings. Siegel added that Tyus Jones and Collin Sexton are also names being monitored by the Timberwolves, although Charlotte has indicated they’re seeking significant value for Sexton.

Minnesota’s urgency stems from their positioning in the Western Conference. The Timberwolves have a 27-17 record, sitting seventh in the standings and seeking consistency after losing three consecutive games.

Orlando Betting on Financial Flexibility

Siegel reported that the Magic are open to trading several rotation pieces as they consider short-term improvements in exchange for long-term salary flexibility.

« The Orlando Magic are open to moving Tyus Jones, Goga Bitadze, and/or Jonathan Isaac before the trade deadline, » Siegel wrote. « Bitadze is an intriguing center who could fetch multiple second-round picks in a trade and free up salary for the 2026-2027 season. »

The Magic (23-19) currently sit seventh in the Eastern Conference. While no deal between Minnesota and Orlando has been reported as imminent, their mutual needs have attracted league attention. As the deadline approaches, both teams are expected to remain active in discussions.
