Adebayo and Herro, former teammates with the Miami Heat for seven years, were involved in a physical altercation in Las Vegas during Summer League, just weeks after the guard was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks as part of the blockbuster Giannis Antetokounmpo deal.
The Las Vegas Summer League was rocked by explosive news. According to ESPN and insider Shams Charania, Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro were involved in a physical altercation Friday morning on a practice court set up in a Las Vegas hotel — the Resorts World, according to The Athletic. The Miami Heat center reportedly punched his former teammate in the face, bringing a brutal end to seven years of apparent camaraderie.
According to several witnesses cited by The Athletic, Adebayo arrived at the courts and Herro said a few words to him. The center then walked toward him and immediately threw a punch. Herro’s AAU team coach stepped in to intervene, while the Bucks guard shouted at Adebayo before being escorted off the premises by security. Both players then left the scene separately. No calls were made to authorities.
The Miami Heat are aware of Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro altercation and declined to comment, per @ChrisBHaynes

Social Media Criticism at the Root of the Altercation
What sparked it all? Private messages on social media in which Herro reportedly questioned Adebayo’s status and his massive contract — a three-year, $166 million extension signed in 2024. Screenshots of these exchanges quickly circulated online. Among the messages, one could read:
« There’s a guy making $60 million and they care about what I’m doing? Should you be getting paid $60 million to be an elite defender on some nights? I wonder. » Herro also stated: « Who did Cleveland guard first in the playoffs? Who did Boston guard first when Jimmy got hurt? I need help, not the other guy. »
Herro had also posted an Instagram story listing players with the worst mid-range shooting percentages, including Giannis Antetokounmpo and Adebayo. One provocation too many for the Heat’s captain.
When asked after the Summer League game between the Heat and the Bucks — which he attended as a spectator — Herro responded curtly: « My only comment is that I don’t have one. » For their part, the Miami Heat stated in a release: « We are aware and will have no comment. » The Bucks also declined to comment.
The irony of the situation is lost on no one: in an old interview, Herro had asked Adebayo which teammate he would want by his side in a fight. Adebayo had answered: « I’d say Tyler, because we have the longest relationship. » Herro had then replied: « Yeah, I’m pulling up! »
According to Yahoo Sports, part of Herro’s resentment also stems from Adebayo’s silence during the trade negotiations to Milwaukee, with the center never stepping in to advocate for his teammate’s importance within the organization. Herro had been sent to the Bucks along with Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kel’el Ware, Kasparas Jakučionis and first-round picks, in exchange for Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis. A brutal separation, which has clearly ended on very bad terms.
