Nicolás Laprovittola returns to Joventut Badalona

Joventut Badalone has made official one of the most anticipated returns in the club’s recent history. Nicolas Laprovittola (6’3″, 36 years old) returns to Badalona on a three-year contract, completing a circle that began in 2017. A homecoming full of emotion and symbolism for a player who remains one of the top references at the point guard position in Europe.

A legend coming home
Laprovittola’s first stint with Joventut read like a novel. Arriving in 2017 when the club was in a difficult situation, the Argentine first helped save the team from relegation before elevating it to new heights. In 2018-2019, he led the Catalan side to an exceptional season, finishing as the Liga Endesa’s top scorer and top assist provider, averaging 17.1 points and 6.4 assists per game. The reward was a natural one: the league MVP award, with an average efficiency rating of 17.7. That season earned him a place in the club’s legend.
Since then, the Buenos Aires-born guard’s path had taken him to the two Spanish giants. Two seasons at Real Madrid (2019-2021), five seasons at FC Barcelona (2021-2026), two Copa del Rey titles, two Spanish Super Cups, a Spanish championship in 2023, and a place in the exclusive club of EuroLeague players to have achieved a 50-40-90 season: his trophy cabinet grew considerably, but his bond with Badalona never truly faded.
A long-term bet despite recent injuries
The three-year signing is also a bet on a player who has endured two major physical setbacks. In October 2024, Laprovittola suffered a torn ACL that ended his 2024-2025 season. Barely back on the court, he suffered a torn adductor tendon in March 2026, sidelining him again for three months.
Despite these concerns, Joventut chose to wager on the longevity and leadership of a player whose pick-and-roll reading, court vision, and ability to swing a game in crucial moments remain rare assets at this level. At 36, Laprovittola returns to a place where he was happy, where the fans embraced him as one of their own.
For Joventut, this return goes beyond a simple signing. It is a statement of intent, a signal sent to supporters and the locker room alike. The Argentine point guard, a silver medalist at the 2019 World Cup – alongside Ricky Rubio (6’4″, 35 years old), with whom he will form a formidable duo – and South American champion with Argentina, brings far more than a playing level: he embodies an identity, that of an ambitious and team-oriented brand of basketball that long defined the Catalan club.
