The Golden State Warriors have shown concrete interest in Josh Giddey, the restricted free agent from the Chicago Bulls, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer. However, negotiations appear complex due to conflicting demands from both franchises and the particular situation of Jonathan Kuminga.

Kuminga Impasse Reveals Warriors’ Priorities
The Giddey rumor sheds new light on Jonathan Kuminga’s situation at Golden State. While the Warriors and their young forward are at an impasse regarding his new contract terms, the interest in the Australian reveals that it’s not so much the financial aspect that’s problematic, but rather Kuminga’s integration into the rotation.
Both parties seem to have agreed on a short-term contract worth between 20 and 25 million dollars annually. The sticking point now concerns who will have more power in this agreement. The Warriors are pushing for a team option after the first year, while Kuminga would prefer a player option to maintain his freedom.
Giddey, who is also expected to receive a contract of around 20 million dollars per year, would fit perfectly in the Warriors’ backcourt. He could handle a significant portion of playmaking duties and streamline the offense in a way Golden State desperately needs.
Major Obstacles to Overcome
According to Fischer, Golden State highly values Buddy Hield and Moses Moody, categorically refusing to include them in any potential sign-and-trade. « Golden State values both players very highly, according to sources, while maintaining high expectations for Hield and Moody to be consistent contributors who prove reliable in providing the necessary spacing to boost the Warriors’ halfcourt offense in the playoffs, » reports the insider.
This position by the Warriors constitutes one of the main obstacles to an agreement between the two franchises. Moreover, Chicago has long indicated they’re not willing to discuss sign-and-trade scenarios, preferring to keep their young point guard.
Giddey’s restricted free agent status further complicates matters. The Bulls can match any offer he signs elsewhere, making it difficult for another team to propose a sum high enough to discourage Chicago.
This situation therefore seems like an impossible dream for the 2025-2026 season, unless the Bulls change their approach or the Warriors agree to part with Hield or Moody.
