An exceptional three-season journey
Since taking over the Boston Celtics, Joe Mazzulla has won 182 games with only 64 losses in regular season. Under his leadership, the team has won at least 57 games each year, even surpassing 60 wins in the last two seasons.
In 2024, Mazzulla led the Celtics to the NBA title. Consequently, he became the youngest coach to win the Finals since Bill Russell in 1969. At that time, Russell was 35 and served as both player and coach. Additionally, Mazzulla was named Eastern Conference Coach of the Month twice, in December and last March.
« It’s truly a blessing, » Mazzulla said, as quoted by the Celtics. « I wouldn’t be here without my faith, my wife, and my children. Also, we thank our owners for their partnership, Brad for his mentorship, and our staff for their support. Most importantly, I thank the players I’ve coached these past three seasons. I’m now eager to compete for the Celtics and the city of Boston. »

Brad Stevens’ complete trust
Brad Stevens, President of Basketball Operations, has always expressed his desire to keep Mazzulla long-term. This extension realizes his intention after several extensions already granted since February 2023.
« We’re very happy that Joe has agreed to extend with the Celtics, » Stevens said. « He perfectly understands the position. Moreover, his passion for the team matches that of our most loyal fans. He has worked hard and accomplished exceptional things in three years, with over 60 wins per season and the 2024 NBA title. Finally, Joe is a talented leader who commits daily to learning, improving, and giving his best to enable the Celtics to compete at the highest level. »
Having joined as an assistant in 2019, Mazzulla then took command as interim head coach before the 2022-2023 season, after Ime Udoka’s suspension. Today, his rapid progression is confirmed with this extension.
