Player Profile

When Chavano Rainer Hield was a child in the Bahamas, his mother gave him the nickname "Buddy" after a television character. That name would become synonymous with one of the most dangerous shooters in the NBA. Born in Eight Mile Rock into a family of seven children, Hield worked his way up through Bahamian basketball before crossing the ocean to join the prestigious Sunrise Christian Academy in Kansas.

His college career at Oklahoma revealed a player in constant progression. Year after year, the guard refined his game, turning his team into a serious NCAA title contender and leading them all the way to the Sweet 16. This capacity for continuous improvement is a testament to his resilience and natural leadership style — qualities that have defined every stage of his career.

Hield's boundless energy on the court is matched only by his commitment off it. A passionate ambassador for basketball in his home archipelago, he dedicates a significant portion of his time to charitable causes and to the development of the sport in the Bahamas. This dual identity as a fierce competitor and generous mentor shapes who he is as a player.

After playing for the New Orleans Pelicans, the Sacramento Kings, the Indiana Pacers, and the Philadelphia 76ers, Hield joined the Golden State Warriors in July 2024. At 31, the Bahamian guard continues to blend individual performance with collective impact, always carrying the legacy of his home islands onto American courts.
