Before becoming one of Europe's most respected point guards, Vasilije Mičić was racing down the snowy slopes of Serbia, with skiing being his first passion. Born in Kraljevo in 1994, this future playmaker ultimately traded his skis for a basketball, a decision that would transform his life.
At just 16 years old, Mičić began his professional career with Mega Vizura, but his early journey was riddled with obstacles. Serious injuries threatened to shatter his budding dreams, testing his mental resilience. Rather than giving in, the young point guard forged his character through adversity, developing the inner strength that would become his trademark. His perseverance paid off when he led Mega Vizura to their first historic qualification in the Adriatic League.
That breakthrough launched a remarkable European odyssey that took him from Munich to Istanbul, by way of Kaunas and Tel Aviv. Each stop enriched his game, sharpening his exceptional court vision and natural leadership. Drafted in 2014 by Philadelphia and then traded to Oklahoma City, Mičić initially chose to stay in Europe before finally joining the NBA in 2023 with the Thunder, then Charlotte.
On the international stage, he represents the new generation of Serbian basketball alongside Nikola Jokić, most notably at the 2019 World Cup. His ability to create plays for his teammates while maintaining a constant offensive threat makes him an indispensable part of the national team.
Today, Mičić continues to write his story between Europe and America, proving that perseverance in the face of adversity can turn a passionate skier into a virtuoso of the hardwood.
