Mixed NBA stint despite financial guarantees

It’s now official: Vasilije Micic won’t wear the Milwaukee Bucks jersey next season. According to Hoopshype, the Serbian point guard and the Wisconsin franchise have reached a mutual contract buyout agreement, paving the way for his anticipated return to Europe.

After being bought out from the Bucks, Vasilije Micic’s NBA career is officially over.

Micic is heading back overseas as many EuroLeague powerhouse clubs are in the process of aggressively pursuing him.

In two seasons overseas, Vasilije Micic never really found his place. Having played for three different franchises (Thunder, Hornets, Suns) and involved in four trades, with the last one sending him to Milwaukee. He posted modest stats averaging 6.8 points, 3.9 assists, and 1.8 rebounds.

Despite earning $15.5 million in two years, the 31-year-old player was under contract for $8.1 million in 2025-2026. According to BasketNews, he agreed to give up $6.1 million to leave the NBA. This demonstrates his firm desire to return to Europe and the EuroLeague he missed.

Highly anticipated European return

This release also benefits Milwaukee, gaining salary flexibility for the upcoming season. For Micic, particularly decorated in EuroLeague with two titles, one MVP and two Final Four MVPs, options won’t be lacking in Europe.

Fenerbahce was presented as the favorite to secure his services, although discussions in Istanbul date back a month. With a limited free agent market, the two-time EuroLeague champion remains one of the most attractive names in European free agency. Since February, his desire to return to Europe was well documented, with an asking price of 5 million euros per season.

The Serbian point guard might first fulfill his international commitments with Serbia at EuroBasket, before definitively choosing his next European destination.
