Serbia continues its triumphant march in Latvia with a fourth consecutive victory against Czech Republic (82-60). Coach Svetislav Pesic’s men relied on their physical superiority inside to dominate from start to finish a Czech team missing its big men and now eliminated from the competition.

Overwhelming interior dominance from the first quarter

The Serbian gameplan was clear: exploit the Czech weakness in the paint. Without their tall players, Czech Republic never found an answer to Serbia’s depth under the baskets. The first quarter revealed this powerlessness: the Czechs attempted 11 three-pointers but made only one, while Serbia constantly attacked the rim.

The result was decisive with a score of 27-5 in favor of Serbia after ten minutes of play. Coach Pesic could even afford to play three players named Nikola simultaneously – Jovic, Jokic, and Milutinov – a nightmare for the undersized Czech defense. This interior dominance translated into a significant gap in points in the paint: 52-20 for Serbia.

Milutinov shines, Micic gets injured

Nikola Milutinov was the most efficient player of the game for Serbia. The center compiled 12 points on perfect 5-for-5 shooting, 7 rebounds and 2 steals for a 19 efficiency rating. A remarkable performance for someone who had only scored 6 points total in his first three tournament games, with an average rating of 4 per game.

However, the evening wasn’t perfect for Serbia. After showing improvement, Vasilije Micic had to leave the game early after taking a hit to the chest on a drive by former Limoges player Tomas Kyzlink late in the game. The point guard didn’t return to the court, adding another concern for Coach Pesic.

This victory allows Serbia to reach a 4-0 record and prepare for a top clash against Turkey for first place in Group A. Latvia, the host country, also benefits from this result by qualifying for the round of 16 as third in the group, while Czech Republic becomes the first team eliminated with a 0-4 record.
