After Luka Doncic, Giannis Antetokounmpo isn’t hiding his ambitions for the future either. Asked about the possibility of becoming an owner in the future NBA Europe project, the Greek Freak showed enthusiasm during his All-Star Game press conference.

A strong interest in sports ownership

« Become an owner? 100% », Antetokounmpo told the media. « If an opportunity comes to me to be an owner in sports, anything, I would consider it 100% », he added. The Greek star remains realistic about his current financial means though.

« In the real NBA, I don’t know if I have that kind of money. If I ever find myself in a position where I’m able to make that decision and it won’t affect my lifestyle, my family’s, and it won’t be too risky, I would consider doing it », he explained.

EuroLeague as a model

Antetokounmpo also looked at existing models in Europe, particularly in EuroLeague where some players own shares in their team. « I don’t know how it works, because in EuroLeague, players have this sports equity and they play at the same time », he observed, citing Vasilije Micic as an example. « I believe he got one or two percent of his team, and he’s also one of the highest-paid players in the EuroLeague. I don’t know how it’s going to work, but if there’s a position for players to get shares with the teams, yes », the Greek specified.

The Bucks star wonders about the practical implications though: « But what would happen if they were traded? Would they have to sell their stake? What if they don’t want to? ». Despite these questions, Antetokounmpo remains categorical about his future intentions, whether in Africa or Europe: « 1000%. I love basketball, and anywhere I can be involved with it, I would love it », concluded the one who is also considering a coaching career after his playing days.
