Germany dominates Finland and finishes undefeated in EuroBasket Group B

Germany delivered another show of force with a commanding win over Finland 91-61 in a sold-out Tampere Deck Arena. The reigning world champions complete their group stage with a perfect record of 5 wins in 5 games, narrowly missing becoming the first team to score over 100 points in five consecutive games in a single EuroBasket edition.
Despite intense pressure from local supporters, Germany took control from the tip-off. German class particularly showed in the final minutes of the second period, where they dominated their opponents 29-17 to lead 50-36 at halftime. The statistics speak for themselves: Germany shot 57% from the field at halftime compared to just 37% for Finland.
Wagner shines, Markkanen contained by German defense
Franz Wagner was once again the spearhead of the German offense with an outstanding performance of 23 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists in just 20 minutes of play. Dennis Schroder contributed with 16 points, 7 rebounds, and 9 assists. The German point guard and Wagner formed a formidable duo in leading their team to this convincing victory.

On the Finnish side, Lauri Markkanen, despite being the team’s star, was remarkably well contained by the German defense. The power forward scored only 11 points on 4/15 shooting, along with 10 rebounds. Olivier Nkamhoua was Finland’s top scorer with a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds, delivering his best performance of the tournament.
The third period definitively sealed the game’s outcome. A two-handed dunk by Wagner on the first possession maintained German control, and the gap continued to widen, reaching 20 points (69-49) at the end of the third quarter. The final period opened with a 6-0 German run, extending the lead to 26 points (75-49), before the maximum gap reached 34 points (89-55).
This victory allows Germany to finish first in Group B and face Portugal in the first elimination round in Riga. Finland, who had already secured qualification, finishes third in the group and will meet either Serbia or Turkey in the round of 16. This result also confirms the Baltic derby between Lithuania and Latvia in the next round.
