Victor Wembanyama Starter at 2026 All-Star Game, a Historic First for the Frenchman

The San Antonio Spurs delivered a quality collective performance Thursday night at the Delta Center, winning 126-109 against the Utah Jazz thanks to a perfect finish in the fourth quarter. Led by De’Aaron Fox’s offensive efficiency and Victor Wembanyama’s versatility, the Spurs rose to the occasion when the pressure intensified.
De’Aaron Fox dominated the game with 31 points on 10/13 shooting, including six successful 3-pointers. The Spurs’ guard particularly shined in crunch time, scoring a crucial three-pointer with 6 minutes 54 seconds remaining to give his team a ten-point lead (109-99). « I think an important element was that we got stops, » Fox said. « I think that’s why they came back in the game, we stopped getting stops. Once our defense got going again, that’s when we blew the game open. »

Victor Wembanyama was equally impressive with 26 points, 13 rebounds, 3 assists and 5 blocks, shooting 9/14 from the field including 4/7 from three-point range. A bounce-back performance after a difficult 5/21 against Houston in the previous game. Keldon Johnson contributed 21 points, while Stephon Castle compiled 16 points, 8 assists and 7 rebounds with only one turnover.
After controlling most of the first half, the Spurs saw Utah come back and tie the game at 99-99 early in the fourth quarter. But San Antonio kept its composure to finish on an impressive 27-10 run, definitively sealing the outcome.
Coach Mitch Johnson praised his team’s resilience: « It’s an endless battle and a lot of defensive mistakes and breakdowns in executing the game plan in terms of coverage, scheme, discipline, personnel, but again, 17 points in the fourth quarter got the job done. »
On Utah’s side, Jusuf Nurkic recorded his second consecutive triple-double with 17 points, 14 assists and 11 rebounds, becoming the first Jazz player to record back-to-back triple-doubles since Pete Maravich in January 1975. Ace Bailey scored 25 points and Keyonte George 23, but without scoring in the final quarter.
This victory, the fourth in five games for San Antonio, confirms the Spurs’ positive momentum as they shot 50.6% from the field and 41.9% from three-point range. The Spurs will host the Pelicans on Sunday, while Utah will welcome Miami on Saturday.
