The Dallas Mavericks continued their excellent streak by defeating the Golden State Warriors 123-115 on Thursday night. This victory brings the Mavericks’ record to 19 wins and 26 losses, while the Warriors drop to 25-21. Despite an exceptional performance from Stephen Curry (38 points), it was Naji Marshall who led Dallas to success with 30 points.
The game began chaotically, with a one-hour earlier start time that seemed to disrupt both teams. The Warriors didn’t score their first basket until 8 minutes and 32 seconds remained in the first quarter, thanks to a 3-pointer from Stephen Curry. Dallas didn’t fare much better, only managing to build a 6-0 lead during that period.
The teams finally found an offensive rhythm midway through the first quarter but couldn’t maintain it. In the second quarter, the Warriors continued to miss shots but compensated by getting to the free-throw line. Meanwhile, the Mavericks started hitting their shots but racked up turnovers.
Thanks to relentless work on the boards and frequent fast breaks, Dallas managed to build a 55-50 lead at halftime. The Warriors came back strong in the third quarter to take the lead but couldn’t maintain their momentum.
The only obstacle for Dallas was named Stephen Curry. The Warriors superstar decided his team wasn’t going down easily and went on a scoring spree, putting up 13 points in the third quarter. His offensive surge opened up space for his teammates, allowing the Warriors to turn the Mavericks’ five-point deficit into an 89-84 lead at the end of the third quarter.
Dallas refused to quit and tightened up their game before going on their own run, building a large lead midway through the final quarter. The constant pressure from the Mavericks seemed to exhaust the Warriors, who could no longer score or defend. Dallas took a double-digit lead thanks to a 24-5 run.
Naji Marshall delivered an exceptional performance with 30 points, 9 assists, and 7 rebounds on 10-of-12 shooting. Cooper Flagg also shined with a double-double of 21 points and 11 rebounds, while Max Christie added 21 points. This fourth consecutive victory marks the best streak of the season for the Mavericks, who managed to hold on despite their 22 turnovers.
