After their heavy defeat against the Detroit Pistons which ended their eight-game winning streak, the New York Knicks bounced back perfectly at TD Garden. Facing the Celtics who were on a five-game winning streak, Mike Brown’s team delivered a complete performance to win 111-89 and reclaim second place in the Eastern Conference.

Jalen Brunson sets the tone from the start

The Knicks point guard set the tone from the opening tip. Completely unstoppable in the first quarter, Brunson scored 15 of his team’s 35 points to give New York an 11-point lead. The lefty never let up the pressure, finishing the game with 31 points on 12/21 shooting and 8 assists.

Despite the efforts of Derrick White (19 points) and Jaylen Brown (26 points), who helped the Celtics limit the damage in the first half (60-53), Boston never managed to turn things around. Josh Hart (19 points) and Karl-Anthony Towns (11 points, 10 rebounds) provided valuable support to the Knicks leader.

Jose Alvarado succeeds in his debut

The former Pelicans player immediately found his rhythm in his new colors. In 25 minutes of play, Alvarado compiled 12 points on 5/12 shooting with 2 steals and a +13 differential. His defensive pressure and speed with the ball brought an extra dimension to the Knicks game.

French rookie Mohamed Diawara also stood out with a perfect performance: 10 points on 4/4 shooting in 26 minutes and the best differential of the game at +22. His coach even awarded him the defensive player of the game trophy.

New York definitively made the difference in the third quarter, limiting Boston to just 15 points to extend the lead to 85-68. With this victory, the Knicks (34-19) move ahead of the Celtics (34-19) in the standings and take the advantage in head-to-head matchups this season. This ninth victory in ten games confirms the excellent form of the New Yorkers as they approach the final stages.
