When Richaun Holmes arrived at Lockport Township High School standing 6'2", nobody imagined he would finish his schooling 6 inches taller with an NBA future ahead of him. This remarkable physical transformation was just the prelude to a career built on extraordinary determination.
The son of two theology doctors who lead a church in the Chicago area, Holmes grew up in an environment where discipline and self-improvement were core values. Those principles stayed with him when he enrolled at Moraine Valley Community College, where he absolutely thrived: averages of 19.3 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 5.2 blocks per game earned him an All-American selection at the junior college level.
His transfer to Bowling Green State University revealed an obsessive perfectionist. Holmes established himself as the program's all-time leading shot-blocker, but it was his commitment to developing his three-point shot that impressed people most — up to 1,000 attempts a day in practice. That relentless work ethic propelled his team to the CollegeInsider.com Tournament during a remarkable final college season.
Selected 37th overall in the 2015 NBA Draft by Philadelphia, the Illinois big man embarked on a rich professional journey, stopping in Phoenix, Sacramento, Dallas, and now Washington. His energetic play, athleticism, and ability to protect the rim have made him a valued player everywhere he has landed.
