Nikola Jokic wants to stay in Denver for life: « My plan is to be a Nugget forever »

Nikola Jokic has clearly expressed his intentions regarding his future with the Denver Nuggets. In a recent statement, the triple MVP affirmed: « My plan is to be a Nugget forever. » A declaration that should reassure Denver fans about their franchise player’s future.
Record extension in sight for 2025-2026
The Serbian center had the opportunity to sign a four-year, $212 million extension this summer, but he chose to wait. This strategic decision will allow him to sign an even more lucrative contract next summer: a four-year, $293 million extension.
« I don’t really think about it, » said Jokic regarding this future extension. « I think these contract extensions come as a reward, like something natural in this sport. Especially in today’s NBA where you see how the salary cap increases and everything. »
Currently under contract through 2026-2027 with a player option for 2027-2028, Jokic is entering the third year of his five-year, $276 million supermax contract.

Reinforcements to convince the superstar
The Nuggets have been particularly active this summer to surround their franchise player. The organization brought back Bruce Brown, a key piece of the 2023 title, and added Cam Johnson via the Michael Porter Jr. trade with Brooklyn. Tim Hardaway Jr. and Jonas Valanciunas also joined the roster.
« Bruce is back. We won with him, » joked Jokic. « We have Cam and Jonas – we have lots of new guys. We have Holmes healthy. We’ll see. It’s new energy, a fresh start for us. I hope we can do something. »
These moves seem to have convinced Jokic that management was ready to build a competitive team around him. After an early elimination in the second round of playoffs, Denver clearly identified lack of depth as a major problem to solve.
