Mathias Lessort returns to training with Panathinaikos

Panathinaikos continued their preparation for the upcoming derby against Olympiacos in EuroLeague, with full participation from Mathias Lessort in team training. The French center made his long-awaited return to team practice on Wednesday, March 4, marking a crucial step in his return to competition.
A long recovery journey since December 2024
Mathias Lessort‘s ordeal began on December 19, 2024, when he suffered a serious injury that shocked Panathinaikos fans. The French international underwent surgery the next day to repair a fibula fracture.
After a brief attempted return during the EuroLeague Final Four in Abu Dhabi in May 2025, which proved premature, Lessort had to undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left ankle in November 2025. This new surgical intervention extended his absence from European courts.
Gradual return under Ergin Ataman’s supervision
Head coach Ergin Ataman had previously indicated that Lessort would resume training around this time, and his return to the squad for games is now expected soon. However, the process will be managed cautiously, without rushing.
Lessort completed the full training program as Panathinaikos prepares for another clash against Olympiacos, this time at the Peace and Friendship Stadium for Round 30 of the EuroLeague regular season.
Meanwhile, Richaun Holmes and Alexandros Samodurov were absent from training. The 32-year-old American center is suffering from sinusitis, while Samodurov is recovering from inflammation in his right forefoot. Additionally, center Omer Yurtseven (2.08m, 27 years old) has left the club to sign in the G-League.
