Roche Vendée Basket is once again facing a worrying economic situation. Already under surveillance in recent seasons, the Vendée club must deal with a heavy financial context, made up of lost revenues, withdrawal of institutional support and administrative constraints. However, its leaders are reassuring about the end of the sports season. This is what the daily newspaper Ouest-France reports.

La Roche Vendée Basket under pressure for several seasons

Since the 2022-2023 season, La Roche Vendée Basket has been operating in an unstable financial environment. At the end of the 2024-2025 season, the club had already come close to administrative relegation for economic reasons, before being maintained.

Several factors have worsened the situation: the departure of a major sponsor, the elimination of a regional subsidy, a tax adjustment covering the 2022 to 2024 financial years, but also a lack of revenue linked to the sports calendar. Despite significant cost-cutting measures, the imbalance remains.

Significant savings, but insufficient

In recent months, management has used several levers to reduce costs. The professional team’s payroll has been reduced by 35%, while certain expense items, such as transportation, have been optimized. Significant efforts, which have not been enough to sustainably restore financial balance.

A validated continuation plan to secure the future

Faced with persistent rumors of bankruptcy, club president David Cottreau wanted to clarify the situation. « Absolutely not, » he states in Ouest-France regarding a possible cessation of activity. With the agreement of the management control commission, La Roche Vendée Basket will implement a continuation plan starting in mid-January. « We will go through to the end of the season without any problems, » assures the manager, determined to preserve the club at the highest possible level.

On the sporting front, no sanctions are expected. After contacting the French Basketball Federation (FFBB), the president received confirmation that no sporting measures would be applied to the club.

A group focused on the court

Despite this challenging context, the locker room seems relatively protected. La Roche Vendée Basket coach David Gautier emphasizes his team’s mindset. « We know there’s a lot of noise about the club. People even ask me: how do you manage to win games? The girls are focused on basketball and enjoying themselves, » he confides.

Before joining Lattes-Montpellier next season, the former ASVEL Women’s coach says he’s focusing on the essentials: « Personally, I’m concentrating on giving all my energy to my players. »
