The San Antonio Spurs delivered a remarkable collective performance to dominate the Los Angeles Lakers with a score of 107-91. Despite a huge performance from Luka Doncic, who recorded a triple-double with 38 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists, the Lakers paid the price for the absence of LeBron James, who was rested to treat various physical ailments.

Keldon Johnson brilliant, Wembanyama effective off the bench
For the Spurs, it was a true collective victory. Keldon Johnson was the best player of the game with 27 points on 11/13 shooting, repeatedly attacking the basket and scoring 14 points in the first half alone. The Spurs’ usual sixth man took over the game against Lakers who struggled defensively.

Victor Wembanyama, used off the bench with limited minutes on a back-to-back, recorded a solid double-double with 16 points on 7/15 shooting, 14 rebounds, 4 blocks and 2 steals in 26 minutes. The Frenchman set the tone as soon as he entered the game with two blocks on Luka Doncic, before really making an impact in the final quarter. This is a mini-event as never since his arrival in the NBA had Wembanyama beaten the Slovenian guard.
Luka Doncic too alone despite his XXL performance
Despite the loss, Luka Doncic delivered another huge performance. Not very accurate from distance (2/9 from 3-point range), he put constant pressure on his defenders by driving repeatedly and getting many whistles (10/16 from the free-throw line). His 86th career triple-double shows his willingness to involve his teammates, but without LeBron James and Austin Reaves, he was too isolated.

The Spurs quickly took control and never really gave the Lakers any hope of a comeback. Stephon Castle was solid as usual, while Julian Champagnie provided scoring early in the game. This victory ends a three-game winning streak for the Lakers, who logically fell against a San Antonio team that was more complete and better armed collectively.
The Spurs’ next game will be Saturday night in Boston, where Victor Wembanyama could start in the starting lineup this time without minute restrictions.
