France U16 team defeated by Serbia in opener

The last French national team engaged in international competition this summer, the U16 women’s team began their EuroBasket 2025 with a defeat against Serbia (64-78). Coach Julien Egloff’s players quickly found themselves in trouble, before making a comeback, but without managing to permanently reverse the trend.
A poor start, a quickly stifled comeback
From the beginning, the young French team suffered under Serbian pressure and fell behind by ten points after the first quarter (21-11). The gap even widened to +15 in the second quarter, before France woke up thanks to Camille Sevaux (17 points on 6/16 shooting and 11 rebounds in 21 minutes). The daughter of Arnaud Sevaux (long-time LNB employee) led the comeback and helped her team catch up.
Even better, France briefly took the lead (42-41) following two free throws by Liya Tetka, with 14 minutes remaining. But this would be the only lead of the game for the French team.
Too much offensive inefficiency
Struggling to organize their game (only 7 assists, with 16 turnovers), the French severely lacked outside shooting with a poor 2/22 from 3-point range. Too big a deficit to hope to compete throughout the game. Serbia regained control and logically won by 14 points.
Reaction expected against Belgium
The French team will need to quickly regroup this Sunday against Belgium, who were beaten by Romania, the host country of the competition. The game is scheduled for 2 PM in Mioveni and could already be decisive in the quest for a good position in the group.
