Alpha Diallo shines in AfroBasket debut with Guinea

Alpha Diallo (2.01m, 28 years old) perfectly launched Guinea’s AfroBasket campaign. On Tuesday August 12, the AS Monaco forward was instrumental in the 88-80 victory against South Sudan, the surprise team of the 2023 World Cup and 2024 Olympic Games. With 28 points on 8/16 shooting, including 5/10 from 3-point range, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 5 turnovers and 3 steals for a 25 efficiency rating in 38 minutes, he dominated the game.

Alpha Diallo leads Guinea
The Monaco player took charge from the start, punishing the opposing defense from both long range and near the rim. His 3-point accuracy and activity on both ends of the floor allowed Guinea to take control and maintain the lead against a South Sudanese team known for its intensity.
Souley Boum solid in support
Alongside Diallo, Souley Boum (ex-Limoges) was also valuable, recording 14 points on 5/13 shooting and 9 assists in 35 minutes. His ability to create for teammates brought balance to the Guinean team, coached by Neno Asceric.
Next challenge: Kevin Kokila’s Angola
Guinea will play their second group match on Thursday against the host nation Angola, featuring Kevin Kokila. This matchup could prove decisive for the rest of the competition.
